Over a year ago when Fidel and I first opened SILVERFLY we were looking for a shoe line that would catch some attention. A call from a family member in NY quickly solved our problem. We were introduced to Civic Duty shoes, and did not hesitate to make the call and get the product in the store.
Made from Tyvek, the material better known for construction or FedEx envelopes, Civic Duty shoes are unique, colorful, durable, and waterproof. They are affordable as well, retailing for $54 to $59 dollars. They catch the eye of every new customer who walks into SILVERFLY, and almost everyone wants to buy a pair. They look great with denim, shorts and yes, even with more formal wear. SILVERFLY sold a set of the “Consideration” collection to a wedding party for use with their khakis and bowties, and as you can see…they looked awesome!
Designer Steven Weinreb, started the company in 2009, after getting the inspiration from a Tyvek shoe bag used to package a travel shoe his company had developed. He felt the material was durable and good to work with it. A year later Civic Duty was born with 5 core pieces and a series of collection items, adding designer touches. Hightops, slip-ons, lace-ups and more, the shoes are versatile in every way and completely comfortable. SILVERFLY has had huge success with the brand and continues to carry a wide selection. Check them out at http://shop.silverflybrands.com/shoes-shoes. I have three pairs and wear them all the time.
We love Civic Duty so much, we have invited Steven to come to Charlotte and do a trunk show at SILVERFLY on April 11th and 12th. We are extremely excited to host Steven and look forward to the event. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming weeks. Ladies, all is not lost, Civic Duty comes in women’s sizes and Steven will be bringing the women’s collection as well.
Do you have your pair of Civic’s yet? If not, plan on coming to SILVERFLY on April 11th and 12th, meet the designer and walk out with what will become one of your favorite pair of shoes.

Have you seen the new Zac Efron film, “That Awkward Moment?” If not go, it’s a really good combo of a guy and girls movie and is worth the ticket price for some good laughs.
For us at SILVERFLY, we saw some great looks throughout the film that caught our eye. The threads on these twenty somethings living in Manhattan were great examples of pro-casual… dressing up while dressing down at the same time.
Take a look at this blue jacket, dark denim, black boots combo on Michael B. Jordan in the scenes to the right. The grey sweaters underneath blend the look. To us he is full on casual, but added a touch of up-style with a colorful jacket. Understated and impressive.
Also check out the black nylon vest/houndstooth blazer combo Zac Efron is wearing. Layering always makes a strong statement. Don’t be afraid to mix non traditional outerwear together.
With the winter being colder in Charlotte this year, what would be your ideal way to layer or add a some color to your weekend casual look? Swing by SILVERFLY at the Metropolitan or check out our fully-stocked online store to see some great choices.
Amazing shoes, simply stated, from design to quality. SILVERFLY cannot say enough about it’s latest product, the “Liam” Shoe from the Office of Angela Scott. We discovered this amazing designer from a customer who was wearing the shoes she had purchased in Los Angeles. We quickly reached out the team at the Office of Angela Scott to see if we could bring the men’s version to our store in Charlotte. They were so courteous, and we were thrilled that they rushed an order out to us in time for the holiday parties.
The “Liam” shoe for men, comes in three colors : Stone, Indigo and Bronze. If the design of the shoe does not immediately impress, then the craftsmanship of the shoe will. From The Office of Angela Scott website : “While so much of modern footwear manufacturing happens on assembly lines, The Office of Angela Scott’s shoes are held to a higher standard. Our commitment to top-quality craftsmanship starts long before the leather and thread of our uppers form the final shoe design. Every individual shoe is bench-made. A single cobbler personally crafts every shoe from start to finish. It takes time, skill, and patient devotion to detail, the kind of time, skill and devotion that only the bench-making process can provide.”
We recently “market-tested” the Bronze and the Indigo at holiday parties, and received endless compliments, not to mention a night of comfortable shoe wearing. While the stripes initially were a surprise to some of our friends and customers, once paired with the right set of jeans or chinos, they scream “confident style”. Many people asked where they could get a pair…
